Meet the Bogolan
The Bogolan fabric, or Bògòlanfini, is a handmade cotton fabric from Mali, West Africa. The name means “mud cloth.” The fabric is a symbol of the Malian cultural identity. Men weave the fabric before the women dye it. The fabric is then dyed in water mixed with leaves from selected trees. After drying the fabric, the women painted it with beautiful designs. The Bogolan paint is made using a special kind of mud from the river.

The mud is then fermented and kept in a clay jar for a year. The Bogolan fabric is also used for fine art and decoration. Our Bogolan bags are a tribute to the Malian culture. This rich and unique fabric symbolizes strength and beauty. It is worn by hunters as camouflage and by Malian women during adulthood ceremonies. The fabric is also used in art and fashion. The people of Mali often wear their Bogolan fashion as a sign of pride in their identity.
